Your Child’s First Dental Checkup
A happy smile is one of the first big milestones in your child’s life. That’s why Dr. Christina Mueller and her team at Olympia Hills Junior Pediatric Dental believe it’s crucial to start your child’s dental care journey early.
We’re ready to protect your child’s smile right from their first breaths with an infant oral exam. If you want to learn more about infant oral exams or schedule your child’s first dental checkup, contact our office today.
What Happens at an Infant Oral Exam?
Our exams for little ones are brief and gentle, often taking no more than five minutes.
During this exam, we will check for signs of lip or tongue-tie. For your baby’s comfort, they can stay throughout the exam.
By identifying any oral health issues early, we can work together to decide on the best course of action for your child’s health and comfort.
What Do Infant Oral Exams Check for?
Dr. Christina Mueller and her team are passionate about preventive care and early intervention. We’re equipped to perform oral exams for infants, understanding that early visits are crucial in addressing potential oral health issues.
These early checkups are key to spotting and preventing issues including:
- Lip and Tongue-Tie: This can make it hard for them to move their mouth right and can cause trouble with breastfeeding or bottle-feeding. If untreated, it may later affect how they talk.
- Gum Care: It’s important to start cleaning your baby’s gums even before they have any teeth. You can gently wipe their gums with a clean, damp cloth to keep them healthy and get ready for when their teeth start to come in.
- Teething Delays: Babies grow their teeth at different times, but if your baby isn’t teething by 15 months, it could be a sign of a problem. We keep a close eye on how your baby’s teeth are growing and can help if there are any delays.
- Tooth Decay: As soon as your baby’s first tooth comes in, they can start to get cavities. Milk and formula have sugar that can cause cavities, which some people call “baby bottle tooth decay.” We’ll show you how to feed your baby in a way that’s good for their teeth and how to keep their teeth and gums clean.
